... cara, maravilhoso!

... well, to begin with, let me just say that this game just oozes quality, from start to finish! But, since I have exactly 4 critisims to make of the game, I'll start with them:

First off, the enemies types could have been slightly more varied, I only counted 5-6 diferent enemies, so a little more variation would have been nice (specailly the bosses); the fact that the ship changes the direction it faces when it turns was, in my opinion, a bad gameplay decision, it makes aiming the shots too dificult and creates frustation; given the previous problem, the ratio powerup drops could have been slightly higher to compensante this, especially "shot" powerups; finally, there was a slight bug in the bonus levels that allowed me to transerve through the obstacles (i.e., hit detection problems). But that's it. The rest, as you will see, was pretty much perfect.

And to begin with, the coordination between the music and the gameplay was absolutly spot-on perfect, which I imagine is really hard to do, and the choice of music was interesting and well picked. The graphics were great, simple but "clean" and (again), went well with the game. The gameplay, albite not very "new", was well executed and actually had a few original elements and the controls were pretty good (although the mouse was a bit "floaty"). I really liked the idea of the bonus levels too.

All in all, this is a really good game, so big kudos and cheers!

... well, that was simply excellent, and nothing else need be said!

Actually, that's a bald face lie, there's lot's of things that can and should be said:

- The overall quality of the drawings was great and two things in particular being noteworthy: the variety of poses of the characters was pretty impressive (although it's something you may not notice much at first) and the backgrounds were brilliant. Oh, and I particularly liked how "Ricky" looked, his costume made him standout above the rest, really.

- The sounds were, however, a mixed bag. The choice of music was perfect, the "cheery", "the murder scene" and the "haunting" themes (for example) increased the atmosphere of the game by 100%, you really nailed the spot with the music choices, they are quite possibly the best aspect of the game!

However, and I know criticism on such an excellent game is going to sound harsh, the "voices" you used, well, they were a bit irritating. Maybe I'm a bit tired right now, but they annoyed me enough that I skipped quite a bit of the dialogue (quite a bit) because of them! I'd recommend using full dialogue on your next movie or, if that's impossible, something else as a voice (although Egoraptor’s effort was actually good).

- The gameplay was simply superb, with great old-school adventure mixed with the new Phoenix Wright style that's so popular now-a-days. It was really implemented too, considering the (large) limitations of flash! Ron Gilbert would (and should, if he sees this flash) be proud.

- The overall length of the game was also spot on, the clues were well thought out (and there wasn't any "searching around with the mouse" either), the dialogue was interesting and well scripted (the option of skipping it was very welcome too). The mystery itself was a bit easy, but any harder would probably make the game too long, so no complaints there.

What else can I say? The overall attention to details was excellent, the interface to the game was simple to use and, and, above all that I've said, I really, really enjoyed myself playing. Which is more important that anything else. I've now spent over 10 minutes writing this review, just to show my appreciation that this game deserves.

And you guys (and by that I mean all three, Tom, Maddy and especially Dim) really deserve massive cheers, kudos and general accolade for what is a really, really, Really, REALLY good game!

... another great game from I-Mockery! You've done it again RoG, this is worthy of your other great classic, Domo-Kun (which is one heck of a complement, considering how brilliant that game is)! The idea for the game in itself was very creative and the "story" quite funny too. The graphics were really good with, in particular, the sprites you used being really well done and, unlike other games that use modified sprites, I honestly couldn't tell if they were completely original (in which case, you deserve extra kudos!) or "just" modified.

The gameplay, although simple, was really well-implemented and quite fun (especially with the secret characters), although a little more variety in attacks would have been nicefor Ivan. On the other hand, the enemies were quite creative and interesting (especially the Segway).

The music was pretty good, but the sound effects were a bit limited, i.e. repetitive and simple and the voice samples used were really bad (but that may have been intentional). So, all in all, this was a great Christmas present from I-Mockery! Now, if I can play the epic that will be Pickleman, the game, any time soon, my life will finally be complete! Bid cheers and kudos for this!

Mockery responds:

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the compliments! All of the graphics in this game are 100% original and PoX did most of 'em. Hope you get to unlock all the characters because the final character unlocks a special mini-game! :)

... an excellent example oh how to take a good idea (if not wholly original) and implement it very well! Technically, the drawings were simple but perfectly adequate (with the bonus of making it smooth, very important in a game like this) and the music was quite catchy and non-irritating after the hearing it for the Xth time.

The gameplay, however, is where this game really shines! It's very simple (and, indeed, "relatively" easy to implement), but you got pretty much everything spot on, so that the jump height, the speed movement, the obstacles sizes... were in all well combined. So cheers and kudos for a really neat game!

... this is a really, really good game! I mean, c'mon, who wouldn't want a non-violent Metal Slug game? The graphics, whilst obviously based on the Metal Slug sprites are creative and very well drawn, the animation is superb and the whole game oozes style. The sound effects however, were "only" adequate (but really, it couldn't be much better in any case) and the music, although good, extremely appropriate and well selected, was a bit repetitive... almost inevitable in a game like this.
The gameplay was, however, flawless (albeit a bit slow, but that may have just been my computer), the level design was very creative (although the narrow corridors are a bit of a cheap death, no way to jump out of the way) with the same going for the enemies and weapons design. Or better yet, they were Very creative! This is really, really good stuff, extremely well made and it the effort really shows. Congrats and kudos for a truly excellent game!

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

thanks a lot. It's always a pleasure to read a well thought out and written review, especially from someone who likes the game.

If it runs slow, try changing the quality to low or downloading the game

... Very, very good stuff. The game, whilst actually quite simple, was very interesting and well made, having the crucial element of skill as an important factor (gameplay wise), which makes the game pretty rewarding (something few flash games offer), especially if you consider the possibility of getting a high score. The presentation was excellent, since it (the game) was very polished, the graphics were very well done and the response time (between pressing the button and getting a reaction) was very small, a common problem that fortunately does not occur here.
The only criticism I have is with the music... I know that any music gets repetitive if heard a couple times, but this music (whilst well recorded) was particularly tiresome... the option to turn it off is very important, but even better would have been other options (but that’s nitpicking really). All in all, top notch stuff here. Kudos!

DBarbarian responds:

Thanks for the in depth review.
I'll try to squeeze in more music options for the next game.

...

... an excellent implementation of an simple idea, the graphics were simple but very sharp, the sound was ok (but repetitive and mildly annoying after a while) and the levels were very creative. The only real problem was the fact one could still cheat (just press the right mouse button once, move the mouse over the end sign and click the left button) and that the collision detection wasn't perfect (if you move fast enough, you can also "cheat" the system, try making the detection rate higher). Still, that was, quite simply, good.

...

... to be honest, I actually enjoyed that quite a bit! It's got that elusive addictive quality that's hard to find in a shooter, but it does really need more variety (one level like that can be very enjoyable, but if you decide to finish the game, the other levels must be different!). Nice graphics, nice animation, nice sound, nice music... all pretty well done (loved the special, by the way). The only other problem I found was a bug, when you come back after you die, some of the acorns can't be killed (why still being able to kill you).

...

... wow, you've received quite a few really stupid / bad reviews, so I hope this will compensate then a bit. To begin with, I loooove your style of drawing (which is, by the way, top notch, definitely among the best of newgrounds), always have (right from the 99k movie), it's pretty different from most and is cute in a non-exaggerated / anime way. Of course, you’re a pretty good animator too, which make for some excellent graphics all round. As for sound, it's defiantly another strong point, the samples and music are all very good, but, alas, recycled from the other game which is a shame... I guess it's ok to re-use graphics, but the music can become a little repetitive, so more variety would have been nice. Now, for the meat-and-bones: the gameplay! I was already greatly impressed with the original demo, but this time around it's even better (specially since I didn't encounter a single bug!). The controls are more responsive which is very good and the game just flows better (although, naturally, there a few frustrating points as is to be expected form a flash game this complex). Whilst I'm not the biggest fan of platform sneaking (but give me Metal Gear anytime), it's very well implemented, so if want to, you can easily sneak about. So, all in all, it really is an excellent game and don't get discouraged from the few bad reviews you're getting (many, I imagine, will probably not have flash 8 installed which may explain some of the "criticism" <sarcasm off>). If a person can be bothered to watch the "how to", they aren't worth pleasing.
